This video contains paid product placement for Freewheel. Today we see the release of the Sram Rival AXS electronic wireless road groupset and is the most affordable of its kind from Sram.
Both 1x and 2x options are available including a ‘Wide’ option like the higher spec Force and Red groupsets. Rival is also 12 speed, and works with the same eTap shift logic as other AXS groupsets.
For those of you unfamiliar with Sram’s nomenclature, Rival sits below Force, which sits below Red, so it’s currently their most affordable wireless groupset.
While this may not seem like a big deal, updates like this may be the early beginnings of the death of cables on high-end groupsets. But hold your on to your cable actuated pitch forks, as we’re not quite there yet.
Warren has been lucky enough to get a first ride in on this Rival equipped Boardman SLR 9.4 AXS disc, so sit back and find out everything you need to know about the new groupset including the all important initial ride impressions.
What do you think about more affordable wireless electronic gear shifting on road bikes? Is it the time to upgrade? Or do you think a well setup mechanical groupset is all you need? As always, please leave your thoughts in the comments!
